How cold is it?

There isn't much to tell about this website except that you have GOT to see the pictures!
I don't know when these were taken but they were taken in Geneva and they are absolutely amazing.  I especially love the one of the car and the one of the benches.

Little Kids Rock

www.littlekidsrock.org  was founded in 1996 by David Wish.  David, an elementary school teacher was frustrated with the lack of funding for music education in his school.  He started an after-school guitar program for some students and it has now grown into a full fledged nationally recognized program.

The program which began in San Francisco now has chapters in:

New York City, NY
Newark, NJ
Memphis, TN
Nashville, TN
Los Angeles, CA
Oakland, CA
West Contra Costa County, CA

Little Kids Rock is focused on helping the kids who have been left behind because of no funding or budget cuts.  They have developed their own method of teaching music in guitar, voice, harmonica and more.  They teach music in the styles that kids are familiar with and many of their students have made their own cd's and music videos.

There are a number of ways you can get involved and help.  Visit the website and make a donation, find out how to get this program in your community, shop in the store or visit the online auction with items donated by popular performers.

Bored.com

Bored.com is pretty much what it says.  When you are bored it is THE place to go.
You can find jokes, you can find funny videos, you can find a whole website dedicated to funny signs people have spotted around the world.
There are games, there are pop song parodies which we all love.  If you are really really bored you can make your own rock band.
Looking for the really unusual?  You can find the hidden lyrics in songs when they are played backwards.
You can make George Bush dance or find some funnies to write on the bathroom walls at work (please don't do that!).
Like bubble wrap?  Try the online version! You will never run out this way.
Need some levity at work?  Here you will find a list of excuses, find cliches, and you can impress everyone after you have read the worlds largest collection of oxymorons.
This really is a fun place.  Take a break from being bored and have some fun!

Motoup.com

What do you get when you combine nascar, motorcycles, diving, womens body parts , friends and a squeegee?
Okay so it wasn't very funny unless you've been there but it IS a fun place..
No matter what your interests you are guaranteed to find something to suit you at motoup.com
It isn't a place that has a niche, it is a niche in and of itself.  There are members from everywhere and everykind.  I really can't even begin to describe what it is like exactly because it isn't like anyplace else.  Their motto says it all:  "We believe that you think you are right."
You can talk about anything and everything.  If you like a good debate you can find one here on anything from why chocolate is better than peanut butter (I personally haven't seen that one yet but Im sure someone will start it) to why the war is good or bad.
Be forewarned, it is a no holds barred forum (with respect) so you might find yourself in a pretty good argument.  Run with it and have fun.

Squidoo

Squidoo is a cool little place and I hope I can do it justice.
It is a place where you can talk about your favorite subject or learn more about most anything.
You can set up a lens and become a lensmaster of any topic you like or you can just browse around and read all the different topics that others are talking about.
In just the top 100 right now you can find anything from George Michael to Area 51!
Besides basic information you can find links and articles on whatever you might be looking for.
It is a really fun place to just browse around and learn some new things.
If you feel like you would like to start a lens of your own you can jump right in.  Just set up a lens, add some links, change your modules to suit you and as a bonus you might even make a little pocket money!   Join Squidoo

Yahoo Answers

Yahoo Answers is still in the Beta stage and it is already quite addictiing!  It is sort of like a huge community where everyone can post questions on whatever they have questions about.  Everyone is free to answer and then you can also vote for the best answer.
They have also set up a point system with points and levels.  http://answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_system  It helps determine your reputation and shows that you are very involved.  This could be helpful when someone is looking for a serious response.
Which brings me to the next area.  Already there are some jerks involved who ask very inflamatory questions just to be smart alecks.
Yahoo will need to find a way to address this problem and do a better job of screening and banning.  I read a post that was almost obscene and the guy that wrote it had been reported numerous times yet the post is still there and he is still active.
Leaving it open for abusers might drive the serious users away which would be sad.  I think Yahoo has come up with a terrific concept here and I hope to see that they get the above issues resolved so that everyone can enjoy it.

Dress Up Games

Dressupgames is a cool little place for kids of all ages.  There are a ton of little games and activities for kids.
Let kids make their own garden complete with a pond, a little fish and a picket fence.  Just drag the flowers and catapillars onto the grass and then watch them grow!
They can also design their own enchanted forest with little fairies!  There is a spot to grow a crystal garden.  Kids can even make a sleepover party.  They can choose which guests to invite and even pick out the decorations.  I have a feeling we will be spending a lot of time on this site!
If you have little ones make sure to add this to your favorites.  With so many choices they should be able to find something they can do at any given moment.

Live Web Cams and zoos

Not too long ago I found a link to the national zoo and discovered they had live feeds so you could watch the animals from the comfort of your own home.
When I first discovered this site Katie and I must have spent a good hour watching the animals.  Since it was at night we were only able to shapes and the nocturnal animals.  First thing the next morning we went back and spent at least half a day watching the elephants, trying to spot the tigers and looking at the fish.  The panda bears were absolutely fascinating and we went back and watched them everday for at least a week.
Today when I went to find the link again to share with you I also ran across a website called CamZone which had links to the San Diego Zoo and their webcams!  So I decided to share them both with you.
At the San Diego Zoo you can watch the Polar Bears, Panda Bears, Apes and the Elephants.
CamZone also has links to the live web cams at SeaWorld where you can watch Shamu and they have live web cams for some beaches too.. Definately take the time to visit these places and share them with your kids.  This is a great way to take a trip to the zoo when the weather is cold and yucky!

Smart online, Safe offline

Thinkuknow is a little site but it is packed full of great advice.
These days we hear a lot of about online predators and how to keep our kids safe but they don't always listen.
If your kids tend to roll their eyes everytime you open your mouth or if you have heard "I know" so many times you can't stand it anymore you can give them this address.  http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/index.html
This site is written with kids safety in mind and written in a way that kids can understand.
It includes basic safety information on blogging, IM's, gaming and just staying safe both online and offline.
After reading the basics they can click to get more indepth information.  I think the important thing here is that the basics at least kick in!
This would be a great site to set up as the homepage on any kids computers in your home..

Top Secret Recipes

Do you have a sudden craving for Molten Chocolate Cake from a certain major restaurant chain?
Have you ever set out to make tacos for dinner only to find out you are out of taco seasoning?
Do you love the Hot Chocolate from the major coffee house chains but don't like to spend $4.00 a cup?
Here is a fun website for you!  http://www.topsecretrecipes.com/home.asp  is chock full of recipes for all the foods we love the most!
Top Secret Recipes has set out to find and give to us all the secret recipes from fast food restaurants, regular chain restaurants and even just name brand stuff we buy in the grocery store.
I found recipes for name brand salad dressings, classic yellow mustard, horsey sauce, special sauce and even name brand candy bars!
Now you would expect that with this information they could charge us a lot of money and we would probably pay it and still feel greatful!  However a lot of the recipes on this website are FREE.. Yep, FREE..
Now of course they have put a lot of work into this and it is a business so not all the recipes are free but if there is one you want and it isn't free you can purchase it for .79.  (At least I didn't find any that were any more)
I think that is cheap enough even for me!  If you don't want to buy recipes one at a time you can even purchase their books right from the site.  Just click on "The Store".
I noticed in The Store that they even have a set of secret spices for sale to make your efforts even easier!
This is one site I will be visiting a lot in fact I might be here all day!

Delibrately Different

Did you know: Pepsi derives its name from dyspepsia, an intestinal ailment.  Not the actual ailment itself but from the treatment of the ailment.  I found this really interesting because I crave pepsi when I have an upset stomach!
Want to find out where other places get their names from?  Visit: http://deliberately-different.blogspot.com/2006/02/how-they-named-companies.html
They have companies listed from A to Z and give great descriptions of exactly how each came up with their name and why.
I don't know why I find this stuff so fascinating but I do.
You can find out how companies like Micron, HP, Apple computer and even Volvo got their names.  By the way.. the Volvo description is quite funny when you first read it!
Once you get to the end of the list don't stop!  Take a look at the comments.  A lot of readers have added their own descriptions of how other companies got their names as well.  Plus some were even kind enough to throw in corrections.  Take from it what you will but it is fun reading!

Pharmacopoeia

Pharmacopoeia is a site I found quite by accident and just from the description I had to go find out what it is.  It is described as a visual art project illustrating medical issues.  It took me a few looks around to really "get" what that meant.
There are some fascinating pictures which you have to see for yourself.  Take a look at the tiara made out of 42 pills and capsules to get an idea, or the Sari made out of osteoporsis and arthritis pills to get an idea.
Each photo is also accompanied by some wonderful descriptions of different ailments and how they are treated.  Definately worth a look if for no other reason than the fascinating art!

Bikermommas Blog

Bikermommas Blog

Okay, so this one got me sucked in with the title "The Doodlepoo Myth".  Now really, how can you NOT go read something with that title?
So as Im reading through the blog trying to find out what exactly a Doodlepoo is I find all kinds of interesting stuff!
Bikermomma is a work at home mom who runs an engraving business and has a delightful sense of humor.  If you don't believe me just read the post on why feminine products should not be taxed and how we should go about making that happen.  I got a great chuckle for the day out of that post!  I personally think she should start a whole blog based on just that objective!
There really are a lot of great posts here and it is definately worth taking a look at!  Besides, aren't you just dying to know what a Doodlepoo is?

The center for auto safety

Okay this one is a little different but what a terrific resource!
Every year there are a bunch of recalls on cars for all kinds of reasons.  If you have moved since you bought your car there is a good chance you won't get the recall notice.  There are probably a lot of other reasons you won't get the recall notice.  Let's say you bought your car from another owner.  You might not get the recall notice because the dealer doesn't know you own the car!
It is important that you know about these recalls not only for safety reasons but for monetary reasons as well.  When something does go wrong with your car why should you have to pay to get it fixed if it is a problem that is under recall?
I entered my vans information only to find out that the power door handle for the sliding door on the passenger side has been recalled.  It is a power door so if you pull at the handle the door will open by itself.  Apparently there have been some people maybe kids who didn't let go of the handle once the door started opening and injured their arms or wrists when they hit the seats in the back.
I would have never known this recall was in place or that this could even be an issue!  Now I know to make sure not to let at least the little kids open the door using the handle.
At The Center for Auto Safety you can quickly and easily find out if there are any recalls or service tickets for your car.  Just enter the make, model and year and you can view all the recalls, why it was recalled and the potential problems.
You can also view other peoples complaints, ongoing lawsuits, how a vehicle did in safetly testing etc.
If you own a car or are buying a car this is a great place you should check out!

Gethuman.com

How many times this year alone have your tried to call a company only to get a robot?  You wait patiently while the automated system prompts you, "press one if you are a current customer, press two if you want to update your address, press one again if you would like to scream"?
I can tell you of at least one company where it is impossible to get a human.  The only way you can get to a real live person is if you are a new customer.  I learned that trick very quickly!  If you are a customer of this particular company you have felt the frustration and know who I am talking about.
Gethuman is another great site for finding phone numbers for various companies but with a twist.  The great deal here is they also tell you exactly how to get a real live person.
I know personally I am tired of talking to an automated system.  Typically if I am calling a company it is because I need to talk to a person to get a situation resolved and the answer can't be found by a robot or anywhere else..
Gethuman has a huge database and over a millioin consumers contributing and giving feedback.  Not only can you find the number you need to get a real live person but you can also rate the company on their customer service abilities.
Is this a terrific concept or what?
If you want to talk to a human or have just ever had to deal with a company (and we all do) and would like to give them some feedback on poor customer service or terrific customer service you need to bookmark this site!   http://www.gethuman.com/
